Visual Toolbox

Twitter

The Twitter tool in the Visual Toolbox provides live always fresh email content by fetching the latest tweets from an account on open. I pointed this tool at the New York times Twitter account, just for the sake of demonstration, we went and fetched the latest tweet, including images and likes and shares of that tweet and composited them together in this layout. It may well look different in an hour as the New York times issues another tweet. There are currently just a handful of layouts in th...

YouTube Thumbnails

The YouTube tool in the Visual Toolbox is designed to make the job of getting a YouTube thumbnail image into email, a fast and simple thing. You can do it manually. You can go to YouTube. But I've seen many, many emails with what were obviously screenshots of the video dropped into the email because getting the actual thumbnail image was just a little too hard and just a little too clunky. Thumbnail images are actually quite important there that the headlines of the video world. So we thought a...

Webshots

The Webshots tool in the Visual Toolbox creates an image that's updated daily with the current state of a website or web page. We chose to call it a web shot because it seemed like the right thing to say. Let me demo an and talk a bit about use the very first time a website is fetched and rendered. It's slow. That one must have been fetched previously because that came through really, really quickly. Because we do this once a day, once it's fetched for the day it's actually quite, quite a fast ...

Weather

The weather tool in the Visual Toolbox uses AccuWeather's extensive global weather data to deliver live weather in email, you can specify a location. If I said Denver, Colorado, I would be sending Denver weather to everybody who got this image. If I leave the location blank, we'll resolve geolocation for the recipient and fetch weather for their location. Geolocation for email images is fairly accurate, but don't expect it to be sort of down to the front door and the street. It can vary widely...

Vanish

The Vanish tool in the Visual Toolbox is designed to do a fairly simple job. Take one message and replace it with another message at a deadline of your choosing. It's a version one tool with some fairly rudimentary controls, and we're really hoping for market feedback about what you'd like to see it do differently. Let me demonstrate how to configure and then talk about some of the options. So let's say we wanted to tell people that our sale ends in five days, and then when that deadline has ela...

Tracking Shipments & Packages

The Tracking tool in the Visual Toolbox provides live on open package status in emails. Configuration is fairly simple. Select the carrier for the package. There are 14 or so worldwide in this list, provide the tracking number and then select the style from the dropdown. We've currently just got a couple of styles. We're happy to add additional styles and would love suggestions or design requests or specs send those to help@campaigngenius.com. I want to point out something a little bit subtle ab...

Icons

The Icons tool in the Visual Toolbox provide search access to a library of over a million icons from a company called Flaticon. The intent is to give you visual content for your email campaigns. The style of these varies, but as the name would suggest, they tend to be flat, not sort of pseudo dimensional or something like that. They look quite pleasant in email. You have the option of resizing. And I believe the max size of the flat icons is up to something like 512 by 512. So you can actual...

Maps

The Maps tool in the Visual Toolbox is designed to provide fast, easy configuration and retrieval of Google Maps. In addition, it offers the option of dynamic on the fly configuration of maps. For example, with something like an email trigger or a shipment notification, I'll walk you through the configuration in the tool quickly, and then I'll show you what those what those details look like in the resulting image URL. Obviously natural all about place. So the location is one of the key settings...

Giphy GIFs

The Giphy tool provides search for the largest collection of GIFs in the world from Giphy. There are actually two different groups, GIFs and stickers. It's a really straightforward tool. If you wanted to tell someone that you were upset with them, you could search on "angry" and browse basically forever, because there are tens of millions of images in GIPHYs collection and it changes every day. Once you see something that captures what you want to communicate visually you put it in your em...

Barcodes

The barcode tool in the Visual Toolbox does what you sort of expect it to do from the name: generates barcodes, those machine readable symbols, from text values. I'll go ahead and populate this with some random stuff, just so we can take a look. The controls to configure are sort of self-explanatory: set the barcode color, set the text color (if you're going to include text) and the background color, and then set width, height barcode font size, text, font size. And let's just take a look at...

COVID Metrics Tool

This tutorial will focus on the COVID targeting tool. We sincerely hope this is out of date and removed as soon as possible, but while we're all in the middle of this, we've had a client interest in being able to be sensitive about local healthcare conditions in terms of in terms of the content that's delivered in campaigns. This tool is built on top of the geotargeting tool. You may find it helpful to watch the tutorial on that separately and you'll see how the things relate to each other whe...

Countdown Timers

The timer control in the Visual Toolbox generates animated countdown timers on-demand when an email or message is opened, or when a webpage is visited. It's actually two tools in one: a basic, easy, straightforward configuration of color and expiration, plus an additional set of parameters that allow the use of a countdown timer in email triggers, webpages, scripts and so on. I'll cover the basic config first and then talk about those parameters. Basic configuration is as straightforward as we...

Geotargeting Tool

The Geotargeting tool in the Visual Toolbox helps marketers send specific content to specific places. By content we mean two things, an image and the hyperlink to which clicks on the image will redirect. Because we find out where a visitor is based on IP address, we're able to say, let's take the green button and deliver it to people in this place and send them to this random URL, home depot.com. Then let's take people with a gold button; if they click, send them to retail, me, not.com and s...

Optimize Tool

This tutorial covers the Optimize tool in the Visual Toolbox from Campaign-Genius. You might be using this tool inside an email platform or as a standalone or within the Campaign-Genius app. It'll work the same way everywhere despite the relatively simple interface. It's a fairly complex tool. This tutorial is going to take awhile because the aim is to give you an idea of all the things that can be done to make use of the tool at heart. What Optimize is for is live split testing of content. By ...

Photos

The photos tool in the Visual Toolbox provides search access to the three major photographer promotion sites – Pixabay Unsplash and Pexels – and covers over 2 million photos, with some non photographic artwork as well. It's basically a search engine that spans all three of those sources. If you find one of them or particular interest or want to browse them, we encourage you to go look@thesitesdirectlypixabay.com unsplash.com and pexels.com. We're not trying to replace them. We're merely trying ...
